WCF GCWC Main Event

Appeal by Tony Hall

An appeal was made against the withdrawal of Hisham Yassin from his remaining five matches in Block C of the Championship. He lost his first four matches and failed to personally advise the Tournament Manager of his withdrawal. It is assumed he was neither sick nor injured.

A block competition relies on all players completing their matches to the best of their ability for its integrity as a suitable event format. A player who is not sick or injured should not be allowed to withdraw. WCF Sports Regulation 2.1 states that it is a condition of participation in an event that a player agrees to abide by the Regulations.

An Appeals Committee was convened consisting of Tony Hall, former WCF President, Amir Ramsis, current WCF President, and Lorraine Gucher, Victorian Director of Golf Croquet, as members. The Committee considered a range of sanctions against the player and decided as follows:
1. The Committee recommends to the WCf that Hisham Yassin should not be allowed to enter the next WCF World Golf Croquet Championship.
2. The Event Management Committee on behalf of the World Croquet Federation should write to the player's national association asking for him to be admonished and required to apologise in writing to the Tournament Manager.

For the record, another player has withdrawn from block play with an injury to his shoulder. This is acceptable.

The Appeals Committee today received convincing evidence that Hisham Yassin was indeed incapacitated with severe back problems. He was accommodated alone and was unable to go anywhere but the hospital. Accordingly the recommendation to the WCF is withdrawn.
