Australia - GC Open Singles

Format by Peter Freer

Block Rounds
1) Four blocks, with each player to play each other player in the block in a round robin of single 13 point games. Sixteen players will go through to the Knockout.
2) Each game will have a time limit of 80 minutes. When the bell goes, finish the current hoop, and play one further deciding hoop if scores are then level.
3) Blocks will play the first five rounds on Wednesday (Day 1), another 5 rounds on Thursday (Day 2) & the final round on Friday AM (Day 3) plus any play-offs.
Players may play more rounds on a day – especially in blocks with 11 players, at the Tournament Manager’s discretion, but any player may decline to play more than 6 games on any day. Players should have lunch when time permits, between games.
4) Place within each block will be decided by games won, then net points, then who beat whom. Players placed 1 to 4 in each block will proceed to the knockout stage. There will only be play-offs for qualifying positions if players ranked 4th or worse are tied on games won.
The Knockout
5) Players will be drawn for the knock-out phase based on final placing in initial blocks, as above using the CA Knockout Procedure (Block based seeding). The knockout will be 3 rounds of best of three 13 point games, and then a best of five Final.
6) The Round of 16 will be played on Friday PM (Day 3). The 8 losers from the Round of 16 proceed to the Y Event.
7) Quarter-Finals will be played on Saturday AM (Day 4). The 4 losers from Quarter-Finals proceed to the Z event.
8) Semi-Finals will be played on Saturday PM (Day 4). The 2 losers from Semi-Finals play-off for Third.
9) The Final will be played on Sunday (Day 5) as a bo5. The playoff for Third, and the finals of the Y, Z, & W events will also proceed, all as bo3.
The Plate Event
10) The Plate event will be conducted in large blocks or Flexible Swiss, depending on numbers. The Plate will start on Friday AM (Day 3) and finish on Sunday (Day 5). Finals are likely to be a single 19 point game semi-final & final, at the Tournament Manager’s discretion.
