Standings after Block Play by Jeff Soo
Blocks C and D finished all their games, so calculating the standings is straightforward. The qualifiers:
Block C
1. Matthew Essick 7/7, +32
2. Harry Dodge 4/7, +11
3. Greg Fletcher 4/7, +7
4. Shane Hettler 4/7, -15
Block D
1. Thomas Balding 6/7, +29
2. Euan Burridge 6/7, +16
3. Tamer Hatata 5/7, +9
4. David Maloof 4/7, +2
Unfinished blocks
For a block in which only one player has withdrawn before finishing the block, and in which all the other games were played, the following principles determine the final order:
1. A player whose final placing would be guaranteed to stay the same even if the unplayed games had been played is given that placing;
2. The remaining players are placed as though the block did not contain the player who withdrew (i.e., that player's games are ignored).
Block A
Mohammad Kamal withdrew having played 5 games, winning 2 of them. Robert Fletcher and Zack Watson each had one loss; Robert had played Mohammad but Zack hadn't. Had Zack played Mohammad he could have overtaken Robert on net hoops. On the other hand, even had Zack lost 0-10 to Mohammad he would still have led Mal Fletcher on net hoops. No other player could have overtaken Mal, so Mal retains 3rd place. After removing Mohammad's games from consideration, Robert beats Zack on net hoops. The qualifiers:
1. Robert Fletcher 5/6 +24
2. Zack Watson 5/6 +22
3. Mal Fletcher 4/6 +4
4. Guy Scurfield 4/6 +2
Block B
Chris Barley withdrew having played 4 games, winning 2 of them. Had the block been completed none of the top 7 placings would be guaranteed not to change, so Chris's games are ignored and this is treated as a block of 7. The qualifiers:
1. Kyle Maloof 5/6 +13
2. Danny Huneycutt 4/6 +15
3. Edmund Fordyce 4/6 +8
and Brian Lozano ties with Kent Lovvorn at 3/6. Brian won their playoff game 7-2 to finish at #4.
