A beautiful sunny day, topped off with a “George Noble special” lunch was enjoyed by all, with the croquet contested by a “sell out” 16 pairs, including one who had flown in specially from Switzerland !

In the morning, four equally balanced seeded blocks, vied for qualification for the ranked afternoon blocks. The 4 block winners who qualified for the top “Premiership” block were Lynn Pearcy & Mark Green, Andrew Wilson & Ian Rees, Douglas Shand & Jill Richardson and Michael Gentry & Martin Burger. After 2 rounds in the afternoon and 2 wins, Andrew & Ian were in touching distance of the overall win, but a 7-3 defeat to Lynn & Mark let the victors overtake them on net hoops, only for Michael & Martin to win their final game 7-4 and pip them to the title by just one net hoop, having snuck into the top group by the same narrow margin in the morning.
The afternoon’s runners up “Championship” group was won by Julie & Phil Tremble, the “League 1” block by Paul Chambers and Richard Relf and “League 2” by Jennian Geddes and Lavinia von Kesmark.
A really enjoyable day, with high drama to the end.
