The consolation format is described at the end.

We finished 94 games today, enough that none of the missing four games could have any effect on which four players advance from each block. Block C finished with a four-way tie for places 3-6, and without time for a playoff. The other blocks finished without ties affecting the cut between 4th and 5th place.

We do not have time to keep the original format of a Qualifying Block of 16. The following revised format should ensure that we can comfortably finish well before dark on Wednesday, while meeting the essential requirement of reaching a clear finishing order for at least the top 12 players.

On Day 3 we will play an intermediate stage with 2 blocks of 8. The top 4 players from Blocks A and D will merge to form Block E. Relevant scores from the original blocks carry forward, so that after 4 rounds Block E will be complete. Likewise, the top 4 from Blocks B and C will merge to form Block F.

Day 4 will follow the same pattern, with the top 4 players from Blocks E and F merging to form the Qualifying Block, and the bottom 4 players from Blocks E and F merging to form the Reserve Block. Relevant scores carry forward, so that after 4 rounds both final blocks will be complete. The results of the Qualifying Block will determine overall 1-8 for the event. The results of the Reserve Block will determine overall 9-16 for the event.

It is possible that any of these blocks could end with ties of 3 or more players. There is no guarantee that we would have time for play-offs to fully resolve all ties. Therefore any ties will be resolved by the following criteria, in descending order of priority: net points; the winner of the most games among the tied players; by lot.

For consistency, we will use the same criteria to resolve the 4-way tie in Block C.

Consolation (Plate) Format

All players who did not qualify to Blocks E and F may continue playing in a Flexible Swiss. This will be a managed format, not just random games. However, players may choose to play more or fewer games. Note that these Plate games will generally be on the back lawns.

You will be added to the queue in the order you arrive and declare yourself available for a game. The first set of pairings will be posted at about 9:00.
