Australia - GC Open Singles

Format by Peter Freer

The format for the Open Singles is:
Block Play
1) Five blocks, seeded, with each player to play each other player in the block (double 13 point games) in a single round robin. Games will be played back-to-back, with only a break for essential reasons. The second game will start with Red/Yellow (or Pink/White) hitting off with either of their balls, regardless of who won the previous game.
2) Players placed 1 to 3 in each block, based on games won, plus one 4th place player will proceed to the final 16 knockout stage. There will only be play-offs for qualifying positions – if you have qualified, place within the block will be decided by games won, then net points, then who beat who. Since blocks vary in size, best 4th will be decided by play-offs between all five 4th placed players. All play-offs will be best of three hoops, starting from corner 2 and running hoops 2, 3 & 4.
3) Blocks will play the first 3 double rounds on Wednesday (Day 1), another 3 double rounds on Thursday (Day 2) & the remaining 3 double rounds on Friday (Day 3). Players may play more rounds on a day if conditions permit, at the Tournament Manager’s discretion, but any player may decline to play more than 6 games on any day. Players should have lunch when time permits, between games.
The Knockout
4) Players will be drawn for the knock-out phase based on final placing in initial blocks, as above. The knockout will be 3 rounds of best of three 13 point games, and then a best of three Final.
5) The Round of 16 will be played on Saturday AM (Day 4). The 8 losers from the Round of 16 proceed to the Y Event. The 4 losers from Round 1 of the Y proceed to the W Event.
6) The Quarter-Finals will be played on Saturday PM (Day 4). The 4 losers from Quarter-Finals in the X event proceed to the Z event.
7) Semi-Finals will be played on Sunday AM (Day 5), along with the Y & Z events.
8) The Final will be played on Sunday PM (Day 5) along with the playoff for Third & Fourth, and the bo3 finals of the Y, Z & W events.
The Plate Event
9) A Plate event will probably be conducted as 2 blocks, depending on numbers. The Plate will start on Saturday (Day 4) and finish on Sunday (Day 5). Top 2 in each block go into the Finals, which will each be a single 19 point game semi-final & final, at the Tournament Manager’s discretion.
