2016 Golf Croquet World Team Championship Tier 1
Tier 1: Format for final two days by Ian Vincent
Tier 1 of the 2016 Golf Croquet World Team Championship has entered its final two days, with four test matches to decide the 8 places.
The final, which will be best of 13 for the Openshaw Shield, is between Egypt and New Zealand, as predicted by the the seeding. Both have been dominant in the earlier rounds.
The remaining play-offs are best of 9. Ireland and England contest the 3/4th test match; USA and Sweden 5/6th; and South Africa and Wales 7/8th, which will decide which team is relegated to tier 2 next time.
The weather forecast for Surbiton is mostly dry, with temperatures in the mid-high teens and a south-westerly wind. The lawns are running at about 11 plumbers, with hoops that are still firm thanks to the work of the (volunteer) groundstaff.
