As I'm not required today I thought I'd do a bit of commentary. A lot of players are not playing this afternoon as the Burridge Swiss comes down to its final 2 rounds. 5 wins or 6 losses in the swiss gets you into either the main event or the plate depending on which you do.

Cheltenham is mild but overcast today. I'm sat in the tearoom looking out at lawns 7+8

On lawn 8 Louise Bradforth, the current Womens champion is playing Canadian Brian Cumming and has gone round to 4back first with Y, leaving K just E of corner 2, U in corner 4, R 10yds N of U and Y in corner 3. It is a contact leave as all singles games are superadvanced.

On lawn 7, Sam Murray is playing Dave Kibble. Sam is going round first after Dave stuck in 1

Lawn 8 Brian lifted K to Y, rolled Y to south of 6 and then missed R leaving a rush to corner 4. Louise has rushed K into the corner for a cannon

Lawn 7 Sam is approaching 3back and looks to be leaving K/U across corner 4 after making 3back but Y is floating between hoops 1 and 5 at the moment

Sam has left K 5yds E and U 5yds N of corner 4 and having took off to Y, rushed it 12yds S of corner 2. Stops Y to a couple of yds S of the corner and fires into corner 3.

Lawn 8 Louise played a little takeoff from the cannon and the following rush brought both balls 3yds from the corner. Rolled U to 2 but failed to approach 1 off partner and has laid up in corner 1.
Brian shot U at K just missing. Louise sent Y to by 3 going to Brian's balls and then missed.

Lawn 7 Dave took off from 2 to 3 to 4 but missed partner by corner 4. Sam shoots with Y from S of corner 2 hitting behind 4

Sam failed to get position at 1 and retires to partner.

Lawn 8 Brian gets going from Louise's miss and has just run 2 with a break.

Both these games are between people on 4/8, win and they are through, lose and they enter the last chance saloon.

Lawn 7 Sam has just failed 1 off K. Dave gets an umpire as he shoots at the ball in the hoop, hits moving it not very far

Lawn 8 Brian is making 6, looks like a spread is coming

and a spread it is with Louise's hoop 1 ball at the peg and the rush set for the 1back ball

Lawn 7 Dave having made 1 ends up approaching 2 from by the peg, doesn't get position and retreats to partner by 3

Lawn 8 Louise lifts R (1) from by the peg and takes the long lift. Just misses the inlawn ball

Brian has continued with U and is reaching 4back with another spread

Lawn 7 Dave has now got going with his hoop 1 ball and has a 4ball break at hoop 3

Lawn 8 Louise missed the long lift with R again down to corner 4, Brian has a tp to qualify for the knockout

Brian has made hoop 1 and is off and running, delayed tp as there is still a ball in corner 4

Lawn 7 Dave tried rushing Sam's Y in front of 1 for a pop before 5 but failed and then put it to the peg. Looks like he has switched to plan B. No more 4 back with pops but 1 back with a spread is the new plan

Lawn 8 Brian after 3 took off to corner 4 (the hardest shot in the game) fell 5 yds short and then missed

Lawn 7 Dave has had a tight crosspeg and laid up 9yds S of corner 2 for K (1back)

Lawn 8 Louise sent K to 2 but R finished in the jaws of 4, retreats north towards partner.

Brian shoots with U at R/Y missing. K shot was just as short and would have given him a break

Lawn 7 Sam lifted Y and missed through R to just in A baulk

Lawn 8 Louise plays Y (4back) rushes R to halfway down the e boundary, takes off to U. Sends U most of the way to corner 1 ending short of K and then misses to W boundary

Brian misses from 2 to corner 1 and Louise moves R to corner 3

While researching Jeff Soo's question of when Super advanced started nothing has really happened. Dave has made 1 back but let Sam in. Brian has just made 4 but a ball is in corner 1

Brian misapproached 6 and has failed the jump after setting up for the delayed tp

I hope the piece I've given so far shows the tension that the players find in the late rounds of the Swiss as they try to qualify. I may come back later with some more commentary but until next time....
