To recap, this is the final game of the method devised by Ian Burridge to get two qualifiers from three players who tied in the blocks. Nina Mayard-Hussan beat Annabel McDiarmid in the first round, to complete the clean sweep of qualification by the four New-Zealand players. In the second, Sue Beattie (the "most advantaged player", who gets the bye), played Annabel, and would have qualified if she had won. However she didn't, so Sue and Annabel play again to decide the final place in the knock-out.

The sun is briefly (?) shining and I am replete with lunch. The players are tossing again.

Turn 1: Annabel goes in with Blue again.

Turn 2: This time, Sue plays Yellow to just South of corner 2.

Turn 3: Annabel shoots at partner and misses.

Turn 4: Sue shoots Red at partner in corner 2 and hits ...

Turn 4 (continued) [delay inserted for censorship reasons, in case anyone reads this before the limit of claims] ... but takes off with Yellow and misses.

Turn 5: Annabel only gets a cut-rush on partner to hoop 1, and ends South of hoop 5. Her roll-up leaves a 2+ yard hoop, which she runs. Yellow has been left on the East boundary and Red is near corner 2. She rolls Blue to South of hoop 2, hits red and sends it to hoop 3 getting a slightly shorter hoop, which she again runs, to leave a break.

Turn 5 (cont): The break is now well under control, approaching 1-back with blue well placed at 2-back.

Turn 5 (cont): A reasonably tight diagonal spread, with Blue and Black a couple of yards north of hoop 5, yellow by the peg and red a few yards in from the West boundary.

Turn 6: Sue lifts yellow, the peg ball, and takes the long lift from corner 3, missing to corner 4.

Turn 7: Annabel gets going and is approaching hoop 2, with Red at hoop 3 and Yellow still in corner 4.

Turn 7 (cont): A roll after hoop 3 luckily collides with hoop 5 to stop there, leaving Blue with a rush on Black which had been left north of hoop 4. Yellow is abandoned in corner 4. Hoops 5 and 6 are negotiated on a three ball break, with the 2-back pioneer rushed into position after 6.

Turn 7 (cont): Blue now for penultimate, with Yellow still in corner 4.

Turn 7 (cont): Partner (black) is rushed to a couple of yards south of peg high on the East boundary after rover and yellow is roqueted, but then left in the fourth corner.

Turn 8: Sue, for one and one against 4-back and peg, has Yellow in corner 4, red near the West boundary south of hoop 2, and the opponent's balls joined on the East boundary. She lifts red and walks towards the north boundary. Her shot from corner 3 ends up by partner in corner 4.

Turn 9: Annabel rushes and rolls up to 4-back, but bounces of it, leaving Sue joined in corner 4.

Turn 10: Sue rushed from 4-back to hoop 1, ran it and has a four-ball break.

Turn 10 (cont): The break has reached one-back, but does not seem to be fully under control yet.

Turn 10 (cont): However, Sue gets to 4-Back and rolls her balls off the south boundary, leaving a cut-rush to hoop 1, leaving blue (for peg) 7 yards west of it, and Black 10 yards south of hoop 3.

Turn 11: Annabell lifts Blue and takes the short lift, missing to the north.

They take a brief break.

Turn 12: Sue runs hoop 1, but her hoop 2 pioneer is NE of the peg ... and she over-rolls a long approach. She will presumably retire to partner by hoop 3.

Turn 13: Annabel's balls are about 40 yards apart: she plays the corner 2 one to corner 1.

Turn 14: Red takes a 5-yard "rush" to hoop 2, takes-off and runs it, leaving a long cut to get to hoop 3.

Turn 15 (cont): It was rushed off the north boundary above hoop 6, from where she approached and run hoop 3. Partner is now behind hoop 4 and she is taking croquet from Blue from the south boundary near corner 4. Blue was sent to peg and red ran hoop 4 towards yellow. but not going far enough to get a rush.

Turn 15 (cont): She rolled partner to the peg, going to Black in corner 1, and played a good roll to get it to hoop 6 and a rush on Blue to hoop 5, to establish a break.

Turn 15 (cont): Red has run 4-back, turning down a long straight 4-back peel.

Turn 15 (cont): Now for Rover, and it looks as though Blue will be pegged out.

Turn 15 (cont): Rover is being made off partner, with Black north of hoop 4 and Blue by the peg.

Turn 15 (cont): She has abandoned the peg-out, just leaving a reverse OSL.

Turn 15: (Sorry, I got a turn ahead of myself in the previous few comments.) Annabel shoots with blue (for peg) at the opponents on the West boundary and misses to the left.

Turn 16: Yellow runs 4-back and has a 4 yard rush to penult or Blue.

Turn 16 (cont): ... which leaves a 4-yard roll-up and a 2-yard hoop ... which is run leaving a forward rush on Red to behind Black.

Turn 15 (cont):: Rover safely negotiated and Yellow hits Black in doing so. Should be all over.
