The Final is David Maugham v Mark Avery on lawn 3.

Mark has hit in the opening and set a 3rd turn DL. Dave has missed the short shot, and Mark has started a 5th turn break.

The lawns has had a fresh cut this morning and I'm told that the hoops have been set to the largest primary, rather than the largest ball. Fortunately Dave and Mark have chosen to play with primaries! Mark U&K and Dave R&Y (obviously)

Mark is conceding contact, not sure whether this is going to 3-back or whether it's just a bad pioneer at 3-back.

Plate update: I've just missed turn 4. Matt Holmes looks to have started an SXPO. Jonathan and Mark on the lawn.

Mark has gone to 3-back, K in corner II. Y about 7 yards N of corner IV and about a foot off the yard line. R on S boundary 3 yards from corner IV. U in corner III.

Dave lifts R and takes contact from U; rolls U W of hoop 1 and lays a rush for R on Y to hoop 1 wired from U.

U corners in IV.

Dave rushes to hoop 1, makes it. Sends partner deep behind 2 and approaches hoop 2 from corner II. Gets a 3 yard straight hoop, which he makes - hoop and roquet. Should be OK from here.

Matts SXPO has come to grief at 6 and 3-back.

Dave is intending to POP rather than QPO. Mark reports that he had cheese on toast for breakfast.

Dave has gone to 4-back. Yellow (for 1) in corner II. Black (for 3) on East boundary level with 4-back. U (for 3-back) on S boundary about 3 yards from corner IV and R (for 4-back) in corner 1.

Mark has played a thick take-off from corner I (moving R 6 yards E), rolled Y to 3-back, but short (it's in to the middle, about 3 yards NE of 5) and is laying a rush near corner III.

Mark's rush is with his hoop 3 ball. Dave is shooting with Y (from near hoop 5) at Mark's ball. Hits the corner flag.

Sorry for the delay - I hit my lift. The bad news for readers is I've done a TPO, so may be needed for my game a bit more often!

Mark didn't get his QP going, and didn't seem to look at the TPO option either. Despite a hampered position after hoop 6 (and hitting his 1-back pioneer), Mark went to the peg, with a defensive spread. (Joined on E boundary near 3-back, with a rush to a ball at the peg and Dave's other (hoop 1 ball) near corner II.

Dave missed the short shot at Mark's balls. Mark made 3-back, but failed to get position after a sideways approach.

Dave hit has is now on a TP

Game 2 - Dave has the first break,

Dave was going to 3-back. Red placed near II (2 yards E), but after 2-back sends black off the lawn 3 yards W of IV, with Y and U close by.

Mark took a break to 4-back. Same leave as before - hoop 1 ball in corner 2, 4-back ball in corner III, R&Y across corner IV

From the contact, Dave rolls U from III to the West of hoop 1, and approaches 3-back from partner. Bounces off 3-back.

Marks shoots U at K, misses

Dave starts his QP; 3-back peeled before 2 going to a pioneer near hoop 6. Not a great approach; fails hoop 2.

It's off Mark's 4-back ball, so we'll have a leave. Puts R (for 2) 5 yards SW of hoop 2; Y (for 4-back) a yard NE of 3. Rolls to corner I to lay a rush.

Dave hits R at Y.

Lunch

Game 3 - Mark U to E boundary level with 5. Dave to corner II. Mark shoots at partner and misses.

Dave takes a shot from B baulk at the double, but misses.

Mark rushed to get a cannon on Daves ball (which wasn't in the corner), but the cannon hits hoop 4. Rolls off hoop 1 and is in break

His leave (for 3-back) has U near corner II (about two yards from the corner, probably not on N boundary either), but is otherwise as before, with R&Y about 3 yards E and N of corner IV.

Dave unsurprisingly has the same response (roll the corner III ball W of hoop 1, and try to lay a wired rush), but doesn't quite get the wire.

Mark shoots, but misses

The chef reports that 18 players ate 6.3kg of beef for lunch. Accompanied by roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, veg and gravy. This explains the extended lunch break...!

Dave looks to me like he wants a QPO, but didn't have space to get peelee to 3-back so he may be POPping again.

Dave goes to 4b; leave is similar to before. R (for hoop 1) about 4 yards S of corner II. Y (for 4-back) in corner I. U (for 3) level with 3 on E boundary. Mark lifts K, takes off from Y going to red. Rolls R to 3-back and lays a rush for partner in corner III.

Dave has a standard TP, but will need some good rushes to start the break.
