Play started today at 1pm. The key early news is that the relayed lawns (1, 2, 7 & 8) are unplayable. They are about 7 seconds and really bobbly.

Spectating from the main club house is diabolical, so we're (me & Susan) sitting between lawns 6 & 11 where the old Cyprus tree once was.

To date only one game is finished. Reg Bamford and Ben Rothman (the no 1 seeds) have won the first game. Ben is making the first break in game 2.

All of the games are super-advanced except having said this out loud, Chris Williams who is sitting next to us immediately exclaimed "we're not!"

There is a 2 ball game in progress between James Hopgood who is in abery long angled position for 3 back and Doug Grimsley who is front of 4 back. James has taken good position and Doug has now run 4 b

Brian Cumming had TPOed Keith Aiton. Doug ran past position at penult. James ran 3b and took (wired?) position at 4b. Doug takes position at penult.

James misses Doug' s ball. Doug runs penult, takes position at rover.

James tries position at 4b, gets 1 yd 45 degree posn. Doug runs rover just, tries gentle go at hitting the peg back through the hoop, which finishes a little short and west, but looks completely open to James.

James hits to save the game. Muffs roll to 4b leaving a 7 yard thirty degree hoop.

James plays to close to 1 guarding Doug's shot at the peg. Doug moves a short distance moving closer to the peg, wired from James by penult. James changes angle by playing a little short of the end of A baulk. Doug lags 3 yard short of the peg getting the cross peg!
